The following is the combined report of the by-election from Allan Frederick and Chris Parker, who both reported for The Valley Sentinel.

The turnout for the by-election was at approximately 53 per cent, numbers based on those from the Nov. 2014 election.

Candidates have up to nine days following the election date to request a recount; therefore, results are unofficial until that time.

First to respond to congratulatory messages was Lisa Bugaychuk, who said, “I want to thank the community of McBride, and to wish the best of luck to elected Rick Thompson and current Council and Mayor.” She went on to acknowledge all the candidates, thanking them for stepping forward before adding, “Let’s unite as a community. We all know together McBride can accomplish great things.”

Diane Smith, in response to the remarks from Bugaychuk commented that it took courage for her to offer herself as a candidate. “Keep it up and I am sure there is a spot for you, maybe next time!”

Rick Thompson added, “We need to work together for a brighter future for our community, and it will take cooperation and diplomacy by many to reach that goal. I plan to work toward that goal.”

Acknowledgment goes to all candidates for their hard work and willingness to offer their time to serve the community, and congratulations to the successful candidate, Rick Thompson
