Coffee House Concert raises $1000 for school playground equipment

The room was packed at the Tete Jaune Community Hall Friday evening, May 5, as approximately 90 people from Tete Jaune and surrounding area came to listen to some good music, all for a good cause.

The Tete Jaune Coffee House Concert featured the music of Gord Peters, Janey Weeks, Michelle Glover Burstrom and John Crowley.

The purpose of the concert was to raise money toward the purchase of new playground equipment for the Valemount Elementary School.

The Valemount Elementary School PAC, through various fundraisers, hot lunch programs and private donations, has already raised about $35,000; however, from those funds they have paid for things such as garden boxes, snowshoes, and various other productions and after-school clubs, including a wrap-up BBQ party for students and faculty. They also sponsored a Winter Festival fundraiser in March.

The group is also looking at purchasing a climbing wall as the first piece of equipment for Phase 1. Overall the new playground equipment is expected to cost around $150,000.

In all, $1,000 was raised at the event through tickets at the door, donations for refreshments, and Stephanie Han was the lucky winner of the draw for a hanging basket donated by Penny’s Greenhouse.

The PAC would like to thank everyone who volunteered and attended, for making the fundraiser a success.
