Valemount Children's Activity Society (VCAS) held their annual spring fundraiser on Mother’s Day, May 14. For the past several years they have done the Duck Race where 600 numbered rubber ducks are dropped into Swift Creek and race the rapids to a gathering spot downstream.
However, with the unpredictability of the weather and the creek, the organizers have had to look for other options.

To this end, they came up with a "Pluck a Duck" event, where all the ducks were placed in a swimming pool and spectators were invited to pluck ducks from the pond until there were only a few left, at which time one of the volunteers removed them one at a time.

The final three ducks are then declared third, second and first place winners. Third place winner of $50 was Dan Lawless. Owen Torgerson took home the second place win of $100 and Sharonrose Shalla was the lucky first place winner claiming the $200 prize.

In addition to the Pluck a Duck event there was also burgers, a bake sale, popcorn, cotton candy and a yard sale, with all proceeds going to support the new playground for the Children's Centre.

This year’s VCAS fundraiser just ducky!
