Valemount newcomers Jeff and Debra Jewett are, among other things, avid bikers. The world-class bike trails being developed in the area was one of the attractions that drew them to Valemount.

When they arrived last fall, one of the first things they noticed was that there was no place to rent bicycles or have one repaired, a service they felt would be a definite complement to the Valemount Bike Park. So, they spent the next few months developing a plan, securing property, and getting permits in place. Building takes time, so to capitalize on the 2017 biking season, they have erected a small temporary structure to house the business while their new premises are being built.

Situated just north of the Swiss Bakery at 1030 Main Street is one of Valemount’s newest businesses, Bikes and Bites. Their shop may be small but Bikes and Bites will be offering a wide selection of bicycles and equipment for rent including Long Boards, Cruz’s, electric scooters, downhill bikes and mountain bikes, as well a range of bicycle parts. Equipment can be rented by the hour, half day, or full day. Longer-term rentals are negotiable.

Slated to open on June 15, just in time for the busy tourist season, the shop is anticipating being open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., seven days a week, or as industry dictates.

Have a flat tire, need your gears adjusted, or just a general tune-up? Jeff Jewett is also experienced and qualified in bicycle repairs and will provide you with friendly professional service to make sure your wheels are safe on the trails and hills, or just around town.

Jeff and Debra moved to Valemount in the fall of 2016 and have jumped feet first into community life! Jeff exclaims that they have had more public contact and friend development in the six months they have been in Valemount than they accumulated in the past fifteen years. Debra has extensive training and experience in Occupational Therapy working with children. She now keeps herself busy as co-manager of Mountain Driftwood Lodging.

With a Master’s Degree in Theatre and Speech, it was a natural for Jeff to launch a   Children’s Theatre Group in Valemount – an informal improv-based approach fun event that helps young people build confidence. After only six weeks, the fledgling theatre group presented their performance to the public in early April. Jeff also assisted Dan Lawless with the theatre program at VSS. He also loves to sing and enjoys the musical emphasis in the community. The couple is actively involved in the Anglican-United Church, but has also been privileged to speak to other congregations in Valemount.

As the interview winds to a close, Jeff laughs as he sums it up with, “Life is what happens when you are planning to do other things!”

Welcome to Valemount Jeff and Debra and all the best of luck for a prosperous future.
