At noon on Wednesday, June 7 local RCMP members Cpl. Jason Nash and Cst. Marika Masters were on hand to provide students from the elementary school with bicycle riding and safety tips. Students also received tips on the importance of making sure helmets fit properly.

The Bike Rodeo, usually set up outside the elementary school grounds, offers students a chance to practice hand signals at Stop signs and turns, and even to test their skill at ramps.

In conjunction with the Bike Rodeo, RCMP are also once again offering a Positive Ticket Campaign throughout the summer in order to reward and reinforce safe biking practices.

The Helmet Fit Test

Eyes – With your helmet on, you should see the bottom rim of the helmet when you look up.

Ears – Make sure the straps form a V under your ears when buckled. The straps should be a little tight but comfortable.

Mouth – Open your mouth as wide as you can. Does the helmet hug your head? If not, tighten the straps.
