According to Valemount Volunteer Fire Department (VVFD) Fire Chief Rick Lalonde, the Department as well as BC Wildfire branch were called out shortly after 2:00 pm on Monday, July 10 in response to an automobile fire on Highway 16, approximately 300 meters west of Robson River Bridge.

When they arrived, the vehicle, a car, was fully engulfed. The fire from the car was also burning toward the tree line.

Traffic was temporarily halted until the incident was over as firefighters needed to be able to work to suppress all the flames and provide a safer work area for Responders, and also as a precaution for the travelling public.

The incident is currently under investigation.
