Gymkhana 2017

The afternoon of Friday, July 7 saw a dedicated group gather at the Canoe Mountain Rodeo grounds for the annual gymkhana, organized by the Valemount Saddle and Wagon Club. The wind was up and dust was flying, but that didn’t stop those cowgirls.

The participants represented a broad range of age and skill level, from tiny but confident Isabelle and Lily Alexander, to the older gals including Melanie Brown, Kelsey Griffin, Madisyn Smith, Alissa Byford, Sarah Woodland, Aisling Ives and Isis Hiroe.

Special mention must be made to Alissa Byford, who, despite horse Monkey’s determined and stubborn resistance, faced the challenge with patience and perseverance.

Monkey presented the same challenge during the following days’ rodeo, and once again Alissa met the challenge with real horse-woman maturity. ‘Atta girl, Alissa! Kudos too to all those amazing young ladies for their horsemanship. The community is proud.
