Valemount Senior Citizens Club news

Marie Birkbeck

As the membership in the Valemount Senior Citizens’ Club continues to grow, the focus of the club has turned to fulfilling the mandate of the organization, which states in part “…to provide amenities of a recreational, social and cultural nature not otherwise readily available through normal operating channels.”

Currently, with limited manpower, the club sponsors two annual bus trips - one in the spring and one in the fall - a Christmas party, and a few in-house activities.

The Board felt that the best way to assure they are planning appropriate functions is to reach out to the community and get input from those directly affected by or wish to be involved with the organization.

To this end, they have created a short Community Interest Survey. Complete and clip the survey (insert location of survey) and drop it off at IDA Pharmacy before closing time January 31.

Results will be compiled and shared at the Annual General Meeting of VSCC on Wednesday, February 7 at 1:30 p.m. in the lower lounge of Golden Years Lodge. Once results are short-listed the club can then proceed with planning and coordinating events for the coming year.

Also on the agenda is Election of Executive and Officers for 2018, and a review of the bylaws with some proposed amendments.

Membership is open to everyone over the age of 50, and is only $10 a year. With a conservative estimate of between two and three hundred residents in the area eligible for membership, there is lots of room for growth!

Be sure to attend the meeting and support your local organization. Call President Doug Hubert 250-566-4046 for more information.
