Parks Canada’s top priority is the safety of the public and staff. We regret that access to the Cavell Road will not be available until further notice. Construction on the Mount Edith Cavell day-use area and parking lot will continue throughout the rest of the 2018 summer season due to circumstances beyond Parks Canada’s control.

Please respect this closure to avoid putting yourself or others at risk.

How does this affect you?

Mt. Edith Cavell day-use area and parking lot, and the Cavell Meadows and Path of the Glacier trails are still active construction zones.

Backcountry users can access campsites in the Tonquin Valley, including Portal, Maccarib, Amethyst, Clitheroe, and Surprise Point, from the Portal Creek Trailhead on the Marmot Road.

Full refunds (reservation fee, cancellation fee, and overnight backcountry fee) are available for backcountry campers cancelling their trips beginning or ending at the Tonquin Valley Astoria Trailhead between the dates of August 1, 2018 and October 31, 2018. Change fees are to be waived for all others. Please contact the Parks Canada Reservation System at 1-877-737-3783.
