Evacuation alert area expanded for Shelley

As a result increased river levels in the Shelley area, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has added another 16 homes to the evacuation alert in the Shelley Townsite, bringing the total to 26 homes in the Shelley townsite.
An evacuation alert remains in effect for Foreman Flats, with 22 homes included in that alert.
Last evening, the Regional District issued an evacuation order for one residence on Leona Creek near Tete Jaune and the site of the mud slide on Monday. Emergency Social Services has been provided to that resident.
Earlier today, Regional District staff responded to calls about Fraser River levels at the end of Salmon Valley Road.
No evacuation alerts or orders have been issued for that area.
River levels continue to rise, but the rate of rise is starting to lessen. The River Forecast Centre has said the Fraser River is expected to peak at South Fort George sometime later today, but that high river levels will persist for the next
few days.
Residents in areas affected by flooding are advised to contact the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George at 1-800-667-1959 in the event that their home is threatened by flooding.
The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution near rivers and streams. High water-flows can cause bank erosion and instability, and currents in the river can be volatile and unpredictable. Please avoid all streams and water bodies with rising levels. The general public is requested to refrain from visiting the affected areas.
